End of term was yesterday, and what a busy term it was. We covered a whole range of topics and many of the children's work and assessments are loaded onto their own websites. The children have used a range of media to present their learning, anything from text, to photos, audio, slideshow presentations and videos. Please go and check these and see what we have been doing. You will enjoy them. Have a happy, safe holiday, we will see you back at school on Monday the 14th of October.
We've just had our two sessions in the Life Education Trust caravan, covering the topic 'Happy and Healthy' which looks at social relationships and keeping healthy. It's a great learning environment and all of the children enjoy the sessions we have in there. There is a lot of positive learning that they gain from these sessions. It's spring in New Zealand, and like any spring, we are getting a lot of rain. This means no chance of playing outside during the day. It's not a lot of fun being stuck in the classroom for the whole school day. It's even too wet to go down to the hall for a Jump Jam session with the rest of middle school (we have a much longer trek there!) Today we checked Youtube for some opportunities to get moving in the classroom. We've found heaps of dance videos, but we particularly like this compilation of favourite Jump Jam songs. We've used it today to get moving and dance off some of our energy. We've been using an iPad app called 'Explain Everything' to create informative presentations. Now our maths class are using the app to create a presentation where they teach a maths strategy that they know and like. These presentations have more than one purpose. They provide clear evidence of what the student can do, and if clearly presented, teach others how to use that strategy. We're going to create a page to display these presentations as children finish them. In the meantime here is our first one... We are very lucky in Room 9 to have been given some free tickets to tomorrow night's rugby match between the Bay of Plenty Steamers and Canterbury. We have tickets for free admission for adults and children. The catch is... you need to click 'Add Comment' and explain why YOU and an adult you know, should get some tickets. We will give them out tomorrow to the students with the best answers. Make sure you tell your parents, and you are sure that you can go.
