We've been very lucky these last two weeks with the iPads from Apple. It has given us the opportunity to get a whole lot of different learning done, and we got to use them to showcase our learning at our Student Led Conferences yesterday. Today, our last day with them, we have all completed a reflective survey on the positives, negatives and the interesting thoughts we have on this trial. The class was absolutely silent as they worked through the survey, giving open and honest answers to the range of questions. This term, as part of the Go4it programme, we have been learning tennis skills. The students have really enjoyed the opportunity to get out and play a game of tennis. Check out our photos... We are super lucky in Room 14, as we take part in an Apple iPad trial, with each student in the classroom issued with an iPad mini for the next two weeks. We already use iPads in the classroom amongst other devices, but having 1-1 devices has really increased the opportunities in our e-class.
The buzz in the classroom is HUGE, as students create, compare, air drop, and share fantastic examples of work. This trial is a great introduction into BYOD, for 2015. We have a load of things that we will be working on over the next two weeks, and even better... we can share and celebrate our year's learning next week in our Student Led Conferences, using our iPads. This year, the whole school created marketable products to sell at our bi-annual market day. We've all be covering Science this term, specifically changes of state. The challenge was to create a marketable products using something that changed state. In Room 14, we listened to the choices many of the other classes had made, and decided we would not repeat anyone else's ideas if possible.
We decided to use salt dough, and the slow cooking process to create a variety of products from necklaces to Christmas decorations. The students worked in groups to produce their product and to make it look great for Market Day. All our product sold, though some had to be reduced in price first, and the students have gone on to reflect on their choice of product and its success/or not. Here are some photos of the 'making' day. We have been learning about Mime in class, as part of our Oral Language programme. We were scheduled to perform at assembly this term, and decided that a Mime performance would be a great idea. The students all grouped themselves, decided whether to perform Abstract or Literal Mime, created a mime, selected music to match what they were doing, and practised, practised, practised. Today we perform to the school. We know that not all family members can make it along to our performance, so here it is on video. Enjoy! Mime Movie from Sonja Heuvel on Vimeo. This term we have made calendar art as a school fundraiser. We decided to create pictures depicting the things we love now, and the dreams we have for our future. We have used a silhouette of our profiles in which our ideas were placed.
Here is a preview of the student's artwork to help with decision making related to calendars/diaries/cards. See if you can identify our students based on their profile. Last term, Room 14 students created their own musical composition to play on the marimbas. They had to compose 4 bars of 4/4 time, using 3 lines and 4 pitches. When the composition was complete, they had to perform their composition to an audience. Click on the video below, to view...
